Congress to show their clout in districts by mobilising people for Bharat Jodo Yatra
ADILABAD: Congress leaders aspiring for party tickets and wanting to show their clout in this region are mobilising people on a large scale for participation in the Bharat Jodo Yatra of Rahul Gandhi in Telangana state. The Yatra resumes its march from October 27.
Congress leaders are also trying to turn the Yatra more colourful by enlisting the services of cultural troupes at various points.
The leaders who were given the responsibility by Rahul Gandhi to make local-level arrangements have started the groundwork, visited the stretch they were made in-charge and took function halls on rent for the stay of the yatris for a day. They also gave contracts for the food and other requirements.
Speaking to Deccan Chronicle, former MLC Kokkirala Premsagar Rao said some 4,500 people from the Mancherial assembly constituency would be transported in buses to the Bharat Jodo Yatra while it passes through Narayankhed assembly constituency in Sangareddy district on November 6.
Congress leader Premsagar Rao and former minister Sridhar Babu were made in-charge of the 25km stretch along the Narayankhed assembly constituency.
According to reliable sources, Premsagar Rao aims to mobilise nearly 4,500 persons including Singareni workers, MGNREGS hands and adivasi Gussadis dance troupes to take part in the Yatra along with Rahul Gandhi.
It was the Congress-led UPA government that enacted the MGNREGS Act and crores of poor villagers are earning small sums from the scheme.
The Singareni workers would participate in the Yatra in their company uniforms and carry with them their spade, a basket made of bamboo and the safety helmet on their heads.
And, Gussadis wearing headgear made of peacock feathers will also participate in the march.
AICC programme committee chairman and former Nirmal MLA Aleti Maheshwar Reddy was made in-charge of the Yatra for November 7. Reddy is trying his best to mobilise maximum participation.
A Rythu Bharosa Yatra, aimed at expressing solidarity with the families of farmers who committed suicides, had been held in Nirmal assembly constituency under Rahul Gandhi’s leadership in 2015.
