Pondicherry Assembly adopts resolution on CMB formation
Puducherry: Puducherry Assembly on Monday unanimously adopted a resolution urging the Centre to constitute the Cauvery management Board (CMB) and Cauvery Water Regulatory Authority (CWRC) forthwith.
Moving the resolution in the House, Chief Minister V. Narayanasamy said the territorial administration would move Supreme Court if the Centre fails to constitute CMB within the time frame.
“The BJP-led NDA government at the Centre and Karnataka government are not respecting the Supreme Court judgment,” the Chief Minister said.
Denying the allegations raised by AIADMK legislator party leader A Anbazhagan that the Chief Minister is functioning in support of the Congress government in Karnataka, Mr Narayanasamy said that he had made it clear several times that the welfare of Karaikal farmers is more important to him than the Karnataka government.
Replying to an intervention from Mr Anbazhagan, the Chief Minister said the matter was brought to the notice of the Prime Minister when he visited Puducherry and he is ready to lay the letter given to the Prime Minister on the table of the House.
Later the resolution tabled by AIADMK member Anbazhagan, DMK member R Siva and the government was passed unanimously by voice vote.
The Chief Minister, who also holds the finance portfolio, also presented a vote on account for Rs 2,466.66 crore in the territorial Assembly.
Earlier the first session of the Territorial assembly in 2018 commenced with the customary address by Lt Governor Kiran Bedi.
Addressing the session she said education, health, industrial development, improving tourism potential among others are the priorities of her government.
Opposition AIADMK members boycotted the Lt. Governor's address by staging a walk out from the territorial assembly to protest against the Congress government which had failed to take steps for setting up of Cauvery Management Board (CMB).
Nominated members denied admission to house
Puducherry Assembly witnessed dramatic scenes as the three nominated MLAs were denied permission to attend the assembly session.
In spite of the high court order upholding their appointments three BJP MLAs, nominated to the House by the Centre, V. Swaminathan, K.G. Shankar and V. Selva Ganapathy were stopped from entering the following which they staged a protest outside the Legislative Assembly
High security were arranged to stop the legislators from entering the house. After nearly sitting for about one-an-half hour in front of the house, one member Mr Shankar fainted and was admitted to the government general hospital here. The other two members continued the protest till the session was over.
Puducherry Legislative Assembly was adjourned sine die after a one day session on Monday.
