Naidu Promises Special Law For Backward Classes

Kakinada: Telugu Desam will bring a special law to protect backward classes and improve their living conditions once it assumes power in the next elections, Telugu Desam national president and former chief minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has announced.

Inaugurating the party’s Maha Nadu-cum-NTR centenary celebrations at Rajamahendravaram on Saturday, Chandrababu Naidu emphasised that late N.T. Rama Rao had floated TDP in 1982 to protect the interests of BCs, SCs and STs. So much so, Telugu Desam came to be known as a BCs’ party.

Speaking on the resolution for BCs moved by Srikakulam MP K. Rammohan Naidu, the TD chief said his government had introduced several welfare schemes like Aadarana, foreign education and loans to BC professionals. But after Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy assumed charge as Chief Minister, all these schemes have vanished.

Chandrababu said backward classes, especially their leaders in Telugu Desam Party, are being victimised by the YSRC government. He pointed out that during the past four years, 76 BC activists of TD have been murdered and 778 of them, including Adireddy Appa Rao, have been arrested.

The former CM maintained that backward classes are the backbone of Telugu Desam. The party had increased reservations for BCs to 34 per cent under its rule, but YSRC, after coming to power, reduced it to 24 per cent. He said Jagan has not given even a single paisa to BCs during the past four years. He asserted that TD will come to power in 2024 or before when the elections are held.

The TD chief maintained that even though Jagan and YSRC leaders have been declaring that they will win 175 seats, TD will go on to win most seats, with Pulivendula as well.

Moving the BC resolution, Rammohan Naidu termed Jagan Mohan Reddy as anti-BCs. However, he has elevated some BC leaders only to always praise him (Jagan). The Srikakulam MP said BC leaders K. Achannaidu and K. Jnaneswar are left and right hands of Chandrababu Naidu, whereas, the Chief Minister has only surrounded himself with Peddireddy Ramachandra Reddy, Sajjala Ramakrishna Reddy, Y.V. Subba Reddy and other Reddys.

Earlier, the TD Welfare Committee introduced a resolution for welfare of TD activists. Party leader Amaranth Reddy introduced the resolution. Speaking on this resolution, Chandrababu Naidu pointed out that there is a ₹100 crore insurance for TD activists. All TD workers who come to the party office would be provided food. Medical treatment is also available to them, including at the Basava Tarakam Cancer Institute. He pointed out that an NTR Memorial School is being run for family members of TD workers.

The TD Maha Nadu passed another resolution – Create wealth and distribute wealth to poor. Chandrababu said he had created a lot of wealth from 2014 to 2019 for development of the people of Andhra Pradesh and also the state. But Jagan had destroyed it and turned AP into “debt” Andhra Pradesh.
