BJP’s state-wide protest to ‘Save Tamil’

CHENNAI: The BJP organised protests in at least 60 places across the State on Thursday reportedly to ‘Save Tamil’ and condemn the DMK government for allegedly using ‘Hindi imposition’ for achieving political gains.

State president of the party, K Annamalai, led the protest in Cuddalore, where he said they wanted an opportunity to learn a third language in State schools like in institutions affiliated to the CBSE.

The DMK government was not doing anything to protect Tamil, he said, pointing out that in last year’s tenth standard school final examination 48,000 students had failed in Tamil.

Accusing the State government of promoting English, Annamalai said only 50 students opted for the Tamil medium in engineering studies offered by the State.

Other senior leaders of the party’s State unit led the protests in various places. In Chennai, where there were seven protests, one was led to vice president VP Duraisamy and another by party MLA Nainar Nagendran.

Various leaders made use of the ‘Save Tamil’ platform to point fingers at the State government on the recent car blast in Coimbatore. They accused Chief Minister MK Stalin of not speaking out on the case.
