Transfer of TD votes to Congress not so easy
Khammam: The transfer of Congress votes to the Telugu Desam in three segments, such as Aswaraopet, Sattupalli and Khammam has become a stupendous task for the leaders of both parties. The issue is more severe in Khammam because of the attitude of the TD leaders. Congress corporators won in ten divisions in the Khammam Municipal Corporation elections and seven of of the ten joined the Telangana Rastra Samiti.
The Congress polled an impressive number of votes in the remaining 40 divisions. So far, candidates who lost the elections are not being approached by the TD leaders who are giving importance to leaders like Ms Renuka Chowdary, P. Sudhakar Reddy and M. Radhakishore and ignoring them.
Due to this, there is dissent among the defeated candidates. These candidates secured nearly 45,000 votes in the the KMC elections. Many leaders expect election expenses from the candidate but there is no sign of it. N. Raghu, a Congress activist said, “It is not so easy to shift the Congress votes to TD which fought as a rival for 45 years. Persuasion and interaction between the TD candidate and the voters is a must. The Congress leaders in the wards can mould the voters by convincing them”.
“The days of following the order of the leader are gone. Even a small-time worker should be satisfied by the contesting candidate. This is the present election phenomenon,” G. Narasimha Rao, a retired teacher said. Such a situation prevails in Aswaraopet too. A Congress leader, K. Rama Rao, asked the TD candidate, Mecha Nageswara Rao, “Why you fight for a ticket if you do not have enough funds.” Many Congress leaders and activists are coming forward to take part in the campaign without making expenses. This same situation prevails in Sattupalli, but, the TD candidate, Mr Sandra Venkata Veeraiah, who knows election gimmicks, is giving importance to the Congress leaders in each and every village.
