Arrest illegal; free Bandi, allow yatra: BJP leaders
Hyderabad: BJP leaders strongly condemned the arrest of Telangana unit president Bandi Sanjay Kumar on Sunday and criticised the government for the last-minute rejection of permission for the fifth phase of his Praja Sangrama Yatra.
BJP national vice president D.K. Aruna termed Sanjay's arrest “an act of cowardice” by the TRS government. "Why is the TRS government so afraid of Sanjay's yatra? It's shameful that the government is using police machinery to obstruct it. The government claims that the law and order situation is under control. Then why are they obstructing the yatra," Aruna asked.
She demanded that the government immediately grant permission for Sanjay to hold the yatra as scheduled from Monday.
BJP Adilabad MP Soyam Bapu Rao said the government's action reflected the undemocratic and dictatorial style of functioning of Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao. He asked how the police could reject permission a few hours before the scheduled public meeting in Bhainsa.
Bapu Rao pointed out that the police had inspected the arrangements at the meeting venue and the arrangements for helipad for the landing of Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis. "This proves that KCR is behind the sudden cancellation of permission for Sanjay's yatra. Under pressure from the CM, the police rejected the permission," Bapu Rao alleged.
BJP state official spokesperson N.V. Subhash said, "This shows that the KCR government wanted to disturb the peaceful padayatra, thus creating a law and order situation and stop the padayatra. We condemn the attitude of KCR government and demand immediate grant of permission for yatra."
