Jagan Calls for Installation of Ambedkar Statue
Vijayawada: Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy has directed the officials to expeditiously complete the works on installation of the 125-feet tall bronze statue of Dr B.R. Ambedkar at Swaraj Maidan in the city.
The CM reviewed the progress of the works and development of the Ambedkar Smriti Vanam project with deputy chief minister (endowments) Kottu Satyanarayana and social welfare minister Merugu Nagarjuan and senior officials at his camp office here on Monday.
The Chief Minister said the government was taking up the project with a sense of its commitment to the principle of social justice. He said the statue would help promote unity among the people, develop fraternal relationships and encourage social harmony.
The officials informed the CM that they would complete the works by January 15 so that the installation of the statue and opening of the Smiriti Vanam could be done on January 24.
The CM asked the officials to complete the works on the Convention Centre and provide it with all the basic amenities. As for the Smriti Vanam, the CM said development of greenery there as also along the pathway is a must.
The officials told the CM that the pedestal where the Ambedkar statue would be erected was being constructed at a height of 81 feet and the statue itself would have a height of 125 feet.
