Hyderabad: The ruling Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS) has decided to up the ante against the BJP-led government at the Centre by chalking out year-long agitation programmes in New Year 2022. The TRS sources said the party would target the BJP by staging protests and demonstrations involving the public every month on select issues.
After hitting the streets thrice against the BJP in November and December over paddy procurement issue, the TRS leadership is planning to stage protest rallies and demonstrations for neglecting and discriminating Telangana in release of funds, in fulfilling promises made in AP Reorganisation Act and several other issues over the past seven years.
Party president and Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao would also take part in a few agitation programmes, sources added. Chandrashekar Rao himself sat on a dharna at Indira Park in November over the paddy issue, the first time since he became the Chief Minister in 2014.
The party will chalk out a roadmap for staging protests all through 2022. It wants to begin with staging protests demanding the Centre to undertake caste-wise census of Backward Classes in Telangana. The party will also extend support to all BC organisations, which hold protests on this issue.
The party wants to highlight the 'discrimination' being meted out to Telangana by the BJP-government at the Centre by holding protests against cancellation of ITIR project to Hyderabad soon after coming to power in 2014. Protests on the Centre's failure to set up tribal university, Bayyaram steel factory and Kazipet rail coach factory as promised in the AP Reorganisation Act are also being planned.
The TRS wants to highlight the issue of the Centre denying funds to Mission Bhagiratha and Mission Kakatiya while granting funds to other states to take up similar schemes, through protest programmes.
The Centre keeping division of assets and liabilities of common institutions located in Hyderabad pending between Telangana and Andhra Pradesh even after bifurcation of state more than seven years ago, will also be taken up during the protest rallies. The TRS will also stage protests against the Centre's Electricity Amendment Bills to tell farmers that this will lead to scrapping of free 24x7 power supply to agriculture in Telangana.
