THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Cricketer S. Sreesanth who is contesting from Thiruvananthapuram central on a BJP ticket kicked off his unofficial campaign by seeking blessings of Lord Sreepadmanabha at the Sreepadmanabha Swami temple and Bharatiya Vichara Kendram director P. Parameshwaran. He garlanded the statue of RSS founder K. B. Hedgewar at RSS office and attended the party function at Mascot Hotel here where BJP’s slogan, ‘Kerala at its road's end, BJP to show the way’ and logo was officially released by senior leader O. Rajagopal.
Sreesanth, who is expected to kick off his campaign officially by end of this month, was given a rousing welcome at the Thiruvananthapuram airport where he was received by district president S. Suresh and scores of party supporters. From there he went directly to Sreepadmanabha Swami temple and also to Pazhavangadi Ganapathi temple. Sreesanth recalled that his mother Savithri Devi had asked him to seek the blessings of Mr Parameshwaran.
The RSS ideologue told Sreesanth that this time he should win the ‘match’ from Thiruvananthapuram Assembly seat. Later in the evening, Sreesanth went to Vettucaud church and took selfie with the devotees who had thronged the church on Easter day. Later in the evening, Sreesanth also called on Amal Krishna, RSS taluk pracharak who is recovering at a private hospital here after he was seriously injured in the clashes between CPM and BJP workers more than two weeks ago.
Mr Rajagopal said six decades of UDF and LDF ruling the State is going to be a thing of the past and it is time for the third front now. The marginalised, homeless and the jobless are awaiting the turn of the third front to come up trumps, he said. Mr Rajasekharan informed reporters that the NDA’s convention will be held on March 30 in Thiruvannthapuram which will be attended by union minister of health and central election committee secretary J. P. Nadda.
