What's in a name, ask PWA leaders
Chennai: Is it Captain Vijayakanth's alliance or DMDK-PWA Front? The question over the name of the newly formed alliance between People's Welfare Alliance and DMDK is yet to be settled with latter calling it as Captain Vijayakanth's Alliance while PWA constituents are sticking to DMDK-PWA Front mentioned in the seat sharing agreement.
After signing seat-sharing agreement with DMDK chief Vijayakanth on March 23, MDMK general secretary Vaiko, to the surprise of other allies, declared that the new front will be called as "Captain Vijayakanth Alliance" but the official agreement mentioned the name as PWA-DMDK front.
"In the seat sharing agreement signed between PWA and DMDK on March 23, it is clearly stated the name of the alliance as DMDK-PWA Front. This is the name of our alliance," CPI (M) state secretary G. Ramakrishnan told reporters here on Sunday when asked to clarify on the name of their alliance.
Dismissing any confusion in the name of the alliance, another constituent of the alliance, VCK president Thol. Thirumavalavan said that though the alliance was called DMDK-PWA Front in the official seat sharing document, Vaiko announced that the alliance could also be called as Captain Vijayakanth's Front to reach out to ordinary people.
"There is no confusion about it. Even if you call it as Captain Vijayakanth's Front, it means DMDK-PWA Front. Similarly if you call it as DMDK-PWA Front, it means Vijayakant's Front," he quipped. "Neither PWA leaders will become lesser in stature by calling the alliance as Captain Vijayakanth's Front nor Vijayakanth become lesser in stature if the alliance is called as DMDK-PWA Front," he said, adding that when the leaders of the front are not worried over it, others need not bother about it.
However, DMDK's women wing leader and Vijayakanth's wife Premalatha, who is addressing a rally in Madurai on Sunday, continues to call the alliance as Vijayakanthi's front. Even the social media wing of DMDK continues to release posters in facebook mentioning as Captain's front.
