KCR to visit Delhi, meet Opposition leaders over anti-BJP alliance

KCR to inaugurate BRS national office on May 2

HYDERABAD: After the April 30 inauguration of the new Secretariat complex, BRS president and Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao is scheduled to leave for New Delhi on May 1 to hold parleys with leaders of non-BJP parties to discuss political strategies aimed at defeating the BJP government at the Centre in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.

According to party sources, the CM is expected to inaugurate the BRS office in Delhi’s Vasant Vihar on May 2. The BRS is now operating out of rented space on Sardar Patel Marg, which the CM inaugurated on December 14. Sources said over 200 party leaders, including Cabinet ministers, MPs, MLAs and MLCs were asked to attend the inauguration of the party's office on May 2. The CM will perform Rajashyamala yagam on the occasion.

During his visit to Delhi, Rao is expected to invite leaders of political parties opposed to the BJP to the inauguration of the party office, and then hold a meeting with them to work out strategies to defeat the Narendra Modi-led BJP administration at the Centre.

Rao may possibly visit Karnataka to campaign for the JDS in the Assembly elections there, according to party insiders. Senior JDS leader and former prime minister H.D. Deve Gowda called Rao over phone and urged him to campaign for his party in Karnataka, sources said

"The CM has responded positively to Deve Gowda's request but is yet to confirm his schedule for campaigning. The CM's campaign schedule is yet to be worked out," sources said.

This would be the CM's first visit to Delhi after December 14, 2022, when he went to the national capital for the inauguration of the party's office on Sardar Patel Marg. The Union ministry of housing in October 2020 allotted 1,100 sq mts of land at Vasant Vihar in the national capital to the TRS (now BRS) for the construction of its permanent office. The CM laid the foundation stone for the building in September 2021. The construction has been completed in 20 months and the building is now ready for inauguration.
