NDA failed to keep its promises: Kanhaiya
HYDERABAD: Has the NDA delivered on the promises it made before it came to power? AICC spokesperson Kanhaiya Kumar found the NDA government falling short on a number of issues, including the economy, agriculture, farmers, China, and national security.
As part of the Congress’ ‘9 saal, 9 sawaal’ campaign, Kanhaiya told the media in Hyderabad that the Prime Minister Narendra Modi government has stopped talking about these issues. "Modi does not speak of acche din any more," he said. "He talks of sab ka saath sab ka vikas all through the year and goes to polls with Bajrang Bali slogan."
Kanhaiya accused the BJP of failing to deliver on its promise of creating two crore jobs per year. "They should have delivered 18 crore jobs by now," he pointed out. "But they make a big deal of giving 80,000 jobs with huge publicity. They seem to think Adani's development is good for India. A majority of Indians have left looking for jobs. With falling income people are digging into their savings and surviving."
Kanhaiya also charged the BJP with failing to ensure national security. He pointed to the Pulwama tragedy, which he said was the result of lapses on the part of the government. He also questioned the BJP's silence on the alleged investments of ₹20,000 crore in Adani's companies.
He also accused the BJP of promoting family rule and pointed to the appointment of Jay Shah as the head of the BCCI, and said that the same is true for the kin of many other BJP leaders.
Kanhaiya also questioned the government's decision not to conduct a Caste Census. He said that social justice means ensuring justice to all and that the government's refusal to conduct a Caste Census is a step in the wrong direction while faulting the PM for flaunting his BC status.
Kanhaiya also expressed concern about the erosion of democratic institutions. He pointed to the Supreme Court judges' press conference and said that this is a sign that the government is not respecting the independence of the judiciary.
The Congress leader also accused the government of watering down the RTI Act and refusing to give information on the PM Cares Fund. He said that the government is not accountable to the people and that this is a dangerous trend.
Kanhaiya concluded by saying that the Congress is committed to upholding the values of democracy and social justice. He said that Congress will continue to raise questions about the government's performance and that it will work to ensure that the government is accountable to the people.
