BJP to carpet bomb Telangana with public meetings in October

Hyderabad: The BJP is gearing up for a scorcher of a campaign month in October, planning to carpet bomb the state with at least one public meeting every day to be addressed by its top national leaders, beginning with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s tone-setting public meetings in Mahbubnagar and Nizamabad on October 1 and 3.

Trying to re-emerge as a party with winning potential in Assembly elections, the BJP has decided to bring every available top gun to Telangana to inject life into the party’s campaign.

Among those who will be making a beeline to Telangana are Union home minister Amit Shah, party president JP Nadda, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, Assam Chief Ministers Himanta Biswa Sarma, Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, and a phalanx of central ministers.

The party circles were abuzz on Wednesday after a meeting of senior BJP leaders that was chaired by state party president G Kishan Reddy chalking out plans for a sustained onslaught on the BRS and the Congress in Telangana state.

Adding to the buzz was the word doing the rounds in party circles that Modi could announce the setting up of a turmeric board in Nizamabad on October 3.

“The BJP will come to power and the party is making plans for its campaign. As part of this, Nadda will hold a day-long meeting of the state executive on October 6 in the city, where we will discuss our action plan for changing the poll campaign landscape in favour of the BJP, and finalise our election road map. We will also be discussing our manifesto for the elections at the meeting,” the party state general secretary Kasam Venkateswarulu said.

He said the party will also discuss strategies to expose the BRS and Congress campaigns and their record of cheating people by making promises just to get votes.

Rajya Sabha member Dr K. Laxman dismissed reports suggesting the planned exit of former MP and party leader G. Vivek Venkatswamy from the BJP. “These are just rumours and he has already condemned them. He is working hard to bring our party to power in Telangana,” he said.
