Anantapur: An engineering student and her mother suffered serious injuries when a youth attacked them late on Thursday after the student refused his love at Yemmiganur town in Kurnool district.
Sources said Chiranjeevi of Prakasam district and his family migrated to Kotha Kappaladoddi village in Peddakadubur mandal in Kurnool district a few years ago. Chiranjeevi did not complete his intermediate studies.
He fell in love with the B. Tech student who, however, refused his repeated proposals. Chiranjeevi even threatened her but she still refused. He thus hatched a plan to kill the girl.
On Thursday night, when the girl and her mother had been going on a two-wheeler, Chiranjeevi waylaid them at Ambedkar Circle in Yemmiganur town. He attacked both the girl and her mother with a sharp knife. They both fell on the road and shouted for help.
Nearby people rushed to the spot, rescued the girl and mother, caught Chiranjeevi and handed him over to police.
SI Mastan Vali detained Chiranjeevi and registered a case based on a complaint by the victims.
