TD, YSRC treating BCs as vote banks: Veerraju

Kakinada: BJP state president Somu Veerraju on Sunday declared that ever since Independence, BCs have always been used as a “vote bank” by political parties, except the BJP.

Speaking as chief guest at the BC Samajika Chaitanya Sabha at Eluru on Sunday, Veerraju explained that Telugu Desam chief N. Chandrababu Naidu had used K.E. Krishnamurthy to capture power in 2014 and later gave him no importance. Present Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy has set up several BC corporations without any funds, powers or requisite infrastructure. Similarly, state home minister Taneti Vanitha does not even have powers to suspend a constable.

The BJP leader underlined that once his party comes to power in AP, they will give Rs 10,000 crore to BC Corporations, apart from plantation works worth Rs 3,000 crore. Similarly, uniform contracts will be given to weavers’ corporation.

BJP OBC Morcha national president K. Laxman said there are 3,600 backward classes in the country. First prime minister Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, his daughter Indira Gandhi or his grandson Rajiv Gandhi have not helped BCs in any way. He maintained that it is only the present Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who has given statutory status to the OBC Commission.

Laxman pointed out that BJP-led union government had allocated `20,000 crore to fishermen community for their welfare and development. Educational opportunities have been given to 4 lakh people belonging to BCs. In 45 Central educational institutions, 4,000 BCs have been appointed as professors after Narendra Modi assumed charge as Prime Minister, the morcha president underlined.

BJP OBC Morcha state president G. Gopi presided over the meeting.
