Hyderabad: BRS president and Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao on Tuesday called on the people of Gajwel to vote for the BRS, promising to ensure “even greater heights of development” for the region.
Addressing his 96th, and the last, campaign public meeting for the 2023 elections, in the constituency that sent him to the Assembly in 2014 and in 2018, Rao thanked the people of Gajwel.
“I thank you from the bottom of my heart for making me your MLA the first time after Telangana was formed in 2104 and again in 2018. While Siddpet gave me strength during the statehood movement, Gajwel made me an MLA and CM. A lot has been done here and much more needs to be done,” he said.
In the polls, Chandrashekhar Rao is facing former party colleague Etala Rajendar of the BJP and Congress’ Thoomakunta Narsa Reddy in Gajwel.
Rao said he worked hard for the development of Gajwel in the past 10 years and the results were there for all to see. “We have solved drinking water and irrigation problems, and we now also have rail connection. Gajwel has achieved recognition for its achievements and to see and study the Gajwel model of development, visitors come from across India and from other countries.
They come to see our integrated market yard, our forest restoration and Mallannasagar; there is no state that has not sent its officials to Komatibanda to study our Mission Bhagiratha project,” he said.
He said that Gajwel will see rapid development soon, with pollution-free industries set to come up here and the Regional Ring Road project cutting across Gajwel.
“I will be turning 70 this coming February. For the past 24 years, I have breathed and lived for Telangana, which must become a great state without illiteracy and poverty, which is my aim,” he said.
Attacking Congress for its promise of bringing back ‘Indiramma Rajyam,’ Rao questioned the need for the same. “What did this do in the past, other than result in encounters, killing of 400 people during the 1969 Telangana agitation?” he asked.
He also took aim at Congress state chief A. Revanth Reddy for saying that three hours of power supply would suffice for farmers, and former TPCC chief N. Uttam Kumar Reddy, for allegedly calling Rythu Bandhu a waste of public money. “Do we want three hours or 24 hours of power and should Rythu Bandhu be stopped?” he asked, to which the crowd responded saying they wanted both to continue.
Earlier, addressing another Praja Ashirwada Sabha in Hanamkonda, Rao called on people to vote for BRS candidates from Warangal West and Warangal East constituencies, Dasyam Vinay Bhaskar and Nannapuneni Narendar, respectively.
Addressing the massive gathering, he said he had great respect for Warangal, which played a key role in the separate Telangana movement. “Several important incidents took place with Warangal as the centre stage during the Telangana movement,” he said.
“The most important thing the Warangal has given to the Telangana state is the ‘Kakatiya Kalathoranam’ which is used as the official emblem of the state. This is the real tribute given by the Telangana people to the Kakatiya Kings.”
He said the government, to augment medical care in the district, has taken up the construction of a super-speciality hospital in Warangal, which would be the biggest in the state.
“Since Warangal is the second largest city in Telangana, the government established several IT companies in the city. Steps are being taken for bringing more IT companies, industries and power companies and a master plan is ready for comprehensive development of Warangal,” he said.
