Congress supports Rahul Gandhi, says OBCs not insulted
HYDERABAD: Congress leaders on Wednesday challenged top BJP leaders claim that Rahul Gandhi had insulted the OBC community.
Nalgonda MP N. Uttam Kumar Reddy said that Nirav Modi and Lalit Modi do not belong to the OBC community. He expressed astonishment at the BJP’s attempts to garner sympathy for the two scamsters by wrongly associating them with the BCs. He was addressing a dharna at the BC Welfare Association organised by Telangana leaders at Jantar Mantar, Delhi on Wednesday.
“Nirav Modi is accused of defrauding Punjab National Bank of nearly Rs 14,000 crore, while Lalit Modi allegedly embezzled thousands of crores and tarnished the reputation of Indian cricket worldwide. Both scamsters are reportedly living a luxurious life somewhere in Europe. It is perplexing that the BJP would choose to use these controversial figures in their campaign, falsely associating them with the BC community,” he said.
Uttam Kumar Reddy accused the BJP government of completely neglecting the welfare of the BC community in the last nine years. He said that BJP leaders were misusing the name of the BC community to shield scamsters like Lalit Modi and Nirav Modi.
Meanwhile, inviting BJP leaders for an open debate on claims that Congress leader Rahul Gandhi had insulted the OBCs, the party’s senior leader V. Hanumantha Rao dared BJP national and state president, J. P. Nadda and Bandi Sanjay Kumar respectively, to substantiate their allegations.
Speaking to media persons at Gandhi Bhavan, former PCC chief Hanumantha Rao maintained that Rahul Gandhi who raised the issue of Adani group won’t be apologising as he did nothing wrong.
“Since Rahul did nothing wrong, he won’t be apologising. I have organised a round table conference on April 1 and invited all the political leaders. I also wrote letters inviting Nadda and Bandi Sanjay inviting them for the debate. The time has come that the BJP leaders proved their allegations,” the leader said.
The former MP alleged that the BJP which has failed to support the OBCs in the past was trying to get their votes in the upcoming Karnataka elections.
“All BCs should speak up. I have also invited AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi. This conspiracy to grab the OBC votes will be challenged,” he said.
