Kakinada to go to civic polls today
KAKINADA: District officials have made all arrangements for the conduct of civic polls for Kakinada Municipal Corporation to be held on Tuesday.
In all, 196 polling stations have been arranged for 2,29,373 voters from 48 divisions, where 241 candidates, 123 of them women, are contesting. Each polling station on average has 1,170 voters on an average. The largest number of 1,354 voters is in 11/5 polling station and the lowest 746 in 39/4.
As many as 17 returning officers, 17 assistant returning officers, 196 presiding officials, 196 assistant presiding officials and 1,796 other polling personnel were deployed for the polls.
The 48 wards were divided in 7 zones and 13 routes; and 196 micro observers were appointed for observing the polling process. The election material distribution, reception and counting centres are kept in Rangaraya Medical College.
The officials have arranged 196 electronic voting machines (EVMs) and another 20 EVMS are kept in reserve. If any EVM develops a technical defect, the officials have made arrangements to rectify the defect or install new EVM within 15 minutes. District Collector Karthikeya Misra said Section 144 was enforced within radius of 100 m from the polling station.
