DMK general council on October 9
Chennai: The General Council of the DMK will meet on October 9 at the St George’s Anglo-Indian Higher Secondary School in Chennai and elect the top honchos, besides finding a replacement for Subulakshmi Jagadeesan, who resigned for the post of deputy general secretary recently.
The party general secretary Duraimurugan made the announcement on the date and venue of the event and urged all general council members and senior leaders to attend the meeting, which was a culmination of the intra-party elections that had been going on for the past two or three months starting from the village level.
The meeting would also ratify the election of the party district secretaries, besides choosing the President, General Secretary and Treasurer. While M K Stalin would naturally continue as president with Duraimurgan remaining the general secretary and T R Baalu as treasurer, the deputy general secretary post would have been filled up with a new face.
Though the names of a few women leaders of the party, including Thoothukudi MP Kanimozhi Karunanidhi, are making their rounds, there is also a rumour that more deputy general secretaries would be chosen to give room for a few more leaders aspiring for party positions.
