BJP plans Modi blitzkrieg in poll-bound Rajasthan

NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will address a public rally on May 31 in poll- bound Rajasthan where the ruling Congress is trying hard to put its house in order before the polls. The rally is being seen as the start of the BJP’s campaign for the Assembly polls due by the end of this year.

Modi’s rally in Ajmer is part of the BJP’s celebration of the completion of nine years of the BJP-led NDA government at the Centre. The PM will high- light his government’s achievements in the past nine years and the projects that the state has got from the Centre, while seeking support for a “double engine government”.

The BJP will launch a month-long campaign from May 30 to mark the ninth year of the Modi government in all states. With the PM’s rally, the BJP’s Rajasthan unit will also launch its “Sampark se Samarthan” campaign to reach out to maximum households ahead of the Assembly polls.

This will be the PM’s fifth visit to the state in the past eight months and the BJP is hoping that the PM’s visit will better its performance in the region, which has nearly 29 Assembly seats. For the BJP, the deteriorating law and order situation, corruption, appeasement and misgovernance will be the main poll planks against Ashok Gehlot government.

During the last Assembly polls, the BJP’s performance had significantly reduced in the region when it managed to win about a dozen seats as compared to 2013, when it bagged 27 out of 29 Assembly seats.

While the weather could play spoilsport, the BJP state unit claimed it made all arrangements keeping in mind the weather predictions for May 31. The BJP will also launch a campaign against the Ashok Gehlot government in the first week of next month as part of its poll strategy highlighting how the Congress government has “failed” to fulfil its promises.
