BJP to be alternative to YSRC in AP: OBC Morcha national chief Laxman

Kakinada: The BJP’s OBC Morcha national president K Laxman said on Sunday that the saffron party is rapidly gaining strength in Andhra Pradesh and emerging as the main alternative to the ruling YSRC.

Speaking to the media in Rajamahendravaram where he participated in an OBC Morcha meeting, Laxman said both ruling parties in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh – TRS and YSRC -- were cheating the BCs. “They are seeing BCs as vote banks, but they did no good to them. In Uttar Pradesh too, the party (SP) representing BCs turned itself into a family enterprise and BCs were let down. That’s why the BCs in Uttar Pradesh are opting for the BJP. A similar situation is prevailing here.”

He said, “When former chief minister the late NT Rama Rao provided 34 per cent reservations in civic bodies and local body elections to the BCs, the TRS and YSRC have brought this down to 18 per cent. Hence, hundreds of BCs could not contest the local body and civic elections.”

Laxman said the BJP was doing justice to the BCs. “Prime Minister Narendra Modi established the BC Parishad for the welfare of OBCs and gave recognition to the nomadic tribes. Chief minister Jagan Reddy set up 54 corporations, but there are no funds and no responsibilities have been given to them.”

Laxman said chief minister Chandrashekar Rao has no right to claim he was pro-farmer. “KCR has promised to distribute fertilizers to farmers, but he did not. When farmers asked KCR for the Minimum Support Price, he sent them to jail.”

BJP state president Somu Veerraj and others were present.
