CID Grills Bengal BJP MLA in AIIMS Kalyani Recruitment Scam

Kolkata: West Bengal BJP MLA Bankim Chandra Ghosh was questioned by the criminal investigation department (CID) of the state police over three hours on Friday in the AIIMS Kalyani recruitment scam.

Mr Ghosh, who is the legislator from Chakdah in Nadia, was summoned by the state detective agency to appear at its headquarters, Bhawani Bhavan, at around 12 pm. He was allowed to go at around 3.30 pm after his statement was recorded.

Last year the CID had raided his residence and also grilled his daughter-in-law in the case. Mr Ghosh is one of the four BJP lawmakers– two MPs including a union minister– who have under CID radar for allegedly influencing the recruitment for jobs at the AIIMS Kalyani.

The accused are union minister of state for education and Bankura MP Subhas Sarkar, Ranaghat MP Jagannath Sarkar and Bankura MLA Niladri Sekhar Dana apart from Mr Ghosh.

They along with four others have been booked in an FIR under section 420 (cheating), 406 (criminal breach of trust), 120B (criminal conspiracy) and 34 (act with common intention) of the Indian Penal Code and under various sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act.
