Farmers Pin Hopes on Modi for Realising Turmeric Board Dreams

NIZAMABAD: Ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Nizamabad on October 3, farmers are eagerly waiting for his announcement of a turmeric board, which has been a long-pending demand of the turmeric farmers, especially. In the previous Lok Sabha elections, Dharmapuri Arvind was elected as Nizamabad MP after he assured to bring the board within five days after his victory. However, it remains an unfilled promise, much to the disappointment of farmers.

Assuring of better services than the turmeric board, Arvind ensured an extension centre of the spices board to Nizamabad but the farmers were not satisfied. Meanwhile, BRS and Congress leaders cornered Arvind for his failure to bring a turmeric board.

Nizamabad, Nirmal and Jagtial districts are known for their huge cultivation of turmeric. The finger and bulb varieties of turmeric from here are exported abroad apart from catering to domestic and commercial needs of the country.

It is to streamline all activities that the farmers have been demanding a turmeric board, which can ensure better cultivation practices and market intervention, many of them opine.

Meanwhile, BJP leaders are hoping that Modi would announce sops for turmeric farmers during Tuesday’s public meeting in Nizamabad.
