Tension in Karimnagar as MIM Activists Stone BJP MP's Residence
HYDERABAD: There was tension all around when MIM activists lobbed stones at the residence-cum-office of Bandi Sanjay Kumar, MP, and BJP general secretary, in Karimnagar and tried to damage flexes on Friday. Police visited the place and dispersed the mob.
The news spread like wildfire and BJP activists staged a protest charging that MIM activists were getting tacit support from the local police.
Trouble started after 3 p.m. when MIM activists took out a bike rally in Karimnagar on the occasion of Milad-Uun-Nabi. When the rally reached Sanjay’s office, some persons pelted stones and shouted slogans against Sanjay.
When the mob tried to damage the flexes and boards at the BJP office, some locals came onto the streets seeing whom the miscreants drove away.
BJP Karimnagar parliamentary constituency convener Boinapally Praveen Rao, who lodged a complaint with the police commissioner, said that the MIM miscreants had deliberately come to Sanjay’s residence-cum-office and pelted stones. The MIM activists also tried to damage the furniture in order to trigger communal riots in Karimnagar, he said.
"We demanded that the police commissioner register cases against the culprits immediately," Praveen Rao said.
Sources in AIMIM said those who were involved were not from their party and were part of a Milad-un-Nabi procession. They were carrying some green flags and some people mistook them as MIM flags, the sources said.
