Kerala\'s All-Party Meeting Unites to Uphold Communal Harmony and Secular Values

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: An all-party meeting chaired by Kerala chief minister Pinrayi Vijayan here on Monday in the wake of the Kalamassery bomb explosion, unanimously resolved to resist with all might the attempts to sow poisonous seeds of mistrust, hatred and intolerance.

One of the important factors that made Kerala the focus of the world's attention, is the unique social milieu of peace, brotherhood and harmony. Keralites have a tradition that is committed to keeping this atmosphere alive.

However, certain forces which are intolerant towards social harmony, are desperate to destroy this brotherhood. The all-party meeting makes it clear that “we will ensure at any cost that Kerala moves forward single-mindedly overcoming such isolated attempts to create disharmony.”

The meeting called upon each individual in the society to take the initiative to nip in the bud any attempt to create disharmony in society by spreading rumours, myths and disinformation. “This is a society where people belonging to all castes and religions have the freedom to pursue their beliefs. The protection of liberty, the protection of rights, which is based on the basic principles of secularism, personal liberty and social security of the Constitution, will be guaranteed in the state.

“One should not allow any situation wherein hatred is spread against any particular community or individual. A situation where a community or a set of people pursuing a particular faith are viewed with suspicion should be avoided completely,” the resolution said.

This meeting observes that society should realize that the divisive forces that are trying to arouse such thoughts are the common enemies of the country and the people. The meeting urges every individual, every political movement and every organisation to come forward in committed efforts to spread this thought in society.

“We appeal to the people to stand united to isolate the attempts being made to defame Kerala, Kerala's proud secular heritage, cultural heritage and distinct social fabric in the wake of an isolated incident,” it said.

The meeting unanimously resolved to strengthen communal harmony and secular principles cutting across all differences at all levels. Kerala is united.
