JD(U) Kerala President Veerendra Kumar to quit Rajya Sabha
KOZHIKODE: Janata Dal (United) state president M.P. Veerendra Kumar will resign as member of Rajya Sabha in protest against the recent decision taken by JD(U) chief and Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar to join the BJP-led alliance.
Mr Veerendrakumar told reporters here on Wednesday that he would not be part of a party allied with the Sangh Parivar. “The decision to resign was taken early,” he said and added that rather than joining the JD(U), it would have been better if his group had remained as SJD.
He also said that he was yet to decide whether to revive the SJD or join any other Janata Dal formations at the state-level. Discussions were already held with Janata Dal leaders K. Krishnankutty and C.K. Nanu, he added.
When queried about joining the LDF, he said that he would continue in the UDF. “So far, there have not been any discussions on changing domain,” he said and added that the merger with the JD(S) was a mistake.
Meanwhile, JD(U) national vice-president Varghese George told reporters that party was yet to discuss any shift in allegiance. “It is the party state council that should decide on changing the party stand,” he added.
