Security upped in Maoist-hit areas along borders: SP
WARANGAL: Tight security arrangements have been made in the Maoist-affected areas and the surroundings of critical and sensitive polling stations for conducting free and fair elections in a peaceful atmosphere, said district superintendent of police Kiran Khare in Jayashankar Bhupalpally district on Wednesday.
It is to be noted here that the Maoists had pasted wall posters appealing to the people to boycott the Assembly elections in several villages under the Palimela police station limits. As part of pre-emptive measures, the police forces conducted raids on internet centres and Xerox shops on Tuesday night.
Following the orders by the SP, the police personnel led by Mahadevpur Circle Inspector Kiran, along with para-military forces, conducted a flag march in Maoist-affected areas along the state borders sharing with Chhattisgarh and Maharashtra states and in the villages on the banks of river Godavari to instil confidence among voters to exercise their franchise in a free and fair manner.
The SP warned of stringent action if anyone indulged in anti-social activities and tried to stop the election process and violation of the model code of conduct.
Urging political leaders and people to follow ECI guidelines in the voting process, he appealed to them to report if they face any issues in exercising their voting right.
He said that tight security arrangements were made in all polling stations along with the imposition of 144 section to avoid any untoward incidents.
Strict vigilance will be in place by establishing check posts and vehicle checks to prevent the flow of liquor, money and other election materials to lure voters.
