TD aims to break YSRC\'s hold in Ramachandrapuram
Kakinada: The Telugu Desam is aiming to break the political influence of the YSRC and MLA Thota Trimurthulu in Ramachandrapuram assembly constituency.
Thota Trimurthulu has a strong hold over the constituency since 1994, when he was first elected from there as MLA as an independent candidate. Later, he joined the Telugu Desam and won the 1999 elections. In 2004, he was a TD candidate, while he ran as a Praja Rajyam nominee in the 2009 polls and was defeated by Congress candidate Pilli Subhashchandra Bose.
Later, Thota Trimurthulu was elected as Congress MLA. This was after Bose resigned from the Congress and joined the YSRC. Even as Thota Trimurthulu changed his political loyalties, he retained a special team of cadres and won a strong hold over the constituency.
In the 2019 elections, he was defeated by YSRC candidate Srinivasa Venugopala Krishna, the present BC welfare minister.
Later, Trimurthulu joined the YSRC, functioned as the Mandapeta constituency incharge and got the MLC post from chief minister Jagan Mohan Reddy.
Amid all these, the TD lost its cadre and there was no incharge to oversee the political affairs in the constituency.
However, the TD recently appointed former deputy chairman of the legislative Council, Reddy Subramhamanyam, as the party incharge of the constituency. Subrahmanyam belongs to the BC community.
Telugu Desam chief Chandrababu Naidu now aims to break the hold of the YSRC and Thota Trimurthulu over the constituency. In a recent review meeting with Reddy Subrahmanyam, Naidu expressed satisfaction over the slow revival of the TD activities in the constituency and advised him to form various committees to prepare the party for the coming polls. He suggested that a full-fledged team be readied by Ugadi, the Telugu new year day.
“We are forming booth committees, mandal committees and affiliated associations,’’ Subrahmanyam told the Deccan Chronicle.
He said that he had already covered 50 villages to activate the TD and and response from the people was good. He expressed confidence that he would break the hold of Thota Trimurthulu and the YSRC in the constituency.
