Congress workers clash as Warangal district party chief takes oath
WARANGAL: Supporters of rival Congress leaders clashed in Warangal East assembly constituency at a ceremony, where Errabelli Swarna took oath as president of the District Congress Committee on Wednesday.
After a long gap, the Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) had appointed former mayor Errabelli Swarna as the new DCC president for Warangal district.
The announcement did not find favour with former minister Konda Surekha, who has been preparing ground for contesting the forthcoming assembly elections from the Warangal East assembly constituency. Surekha went on to openly express her displeasure against the party leadership for choosing Swarna without her consent.
In the interim, followers of Swarna also started pushing her name as Congress nominee from the Warangal East constituency. This only increased the rivalry between supporters of Swarna and Surekha.
While Swarna has been taking oath as the DCC president, followers of Surekha raised objections that photos of Konda Surekha and her husband Konda Muralidhar had not appeared on the flexies put up on the occasion. Further, they questioned why Surekha and Muralidhar had not been invited for the ceremony.
This led to heated arguments between supporters of the two leaders, followed by throwing of chairs at each other. Some of them also exchanged blows.
However, senior Congress leader Rajeshwar Rao, husband of Errabelli Swarna, brought the situation under control by calming both the groups. He warned that otherwise, TPCC would take action against the undisciplined leaders.
