Congress demands Govt provide succour to flood hit farmers
Hyderabad: Questioning the state government’s failure to assess crop damage due to floods, CLP leader Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka urged Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao to instruct officials to send a report to the Centre on priority so that money for flood relief could be released.
In a media statement on Sunday, Bhatti expressed anguish that despite the Congress Legislature Party (CLP) bringing to the notice of the government the magnitude of crop loss some 10 days back, the official machinery had remained unmoved. This spoke volumes about the government’s attitude towards farmers.
“Further delay would only deprive the farmers of Central schemes like Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY). The state government is to be blamed for the suicide of farmers following crop damage,” he emphasised.
The CLP leader said that as per the rough estimates, 13 lakh acres of standing crop of cotton, soyabean, maize, paddy amongst others were completely damaged. “It has been 15 days since the crops were damaged, but the state government is yet to announce compensation. In undivided AP, both the state and Central governments responded in time, but under the TRS government nothing of that sort is being witnessed,” he added.
