Congress least bothered about relief to flood, drought-affected in Karnataka: Bommai

Belagavi: Former Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai launched a scathing attack on the Congress government for its neglect of the flood and drought situation in the state and accused it of focused on just clinging to power.

Speaking to the media at Belagavi airport, Bommai highlighted the impact of incessant rain, causing damage to houses and livestock in several districts, while other parts of Karnataka experienced drought-like situation.

He expressed deep concern over the flood situation in about 11 districts.

"Those who lost their homes due to rains should be provided a compensation of Rs 10,000 immediately, but the government has been callous in delivering timely aid. There has been no preliminary survey of the crop damage. The loss of lives seems to have gone unnoticed by the government. There has been a complete absence of ministerial visits to the flood-affected regions, and the drought-stricken areas have been left without adequate support for seed and manure to grow alternative crops," Bommai added.

He criticized the lack of relief efforts by the government.

"The government seems to be only interested in politics and is preoccupied with resolving internal conflicts between ministers and MLAs," Bommai asserted.

Recalling the actions taken during the BJP rule in the state, Bommai reminded how the government had provided Rs 5 lakh compensation for completely damaged houses and Rs 3 lakh for partially damaged ones.

Bommai expressed concern over the transfer racket within the government, claiming that there was a competition in the government for this.

Bommai stated that preparations for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, were already underway.

He also stated that the appointment of the BJP state president would be done shortly.
