HYDERABAD: It is not just the BRS, and a resurgent Congress that the BJP in the state has to deal with as it prepares for the coming Assembly elections in the state.
Looming on its to-do list are three questions from its cadre that the party might have to address with some urgency, to calm the agitated minds of its workers, who are still wondering why Bandi Sanjay Kumar was removed as Telangana BJP president, the reasons behind BRS MLC K. Kavitha not being arrested in the Delhi liquor scam till now, and why a strong Hindutva votary, D. Raja Singh, the MLA from Goshamahal, was suspended from the party.
These three questions were the most commonly encountered ones in each of the state’s 119 Assembly sessions by the 119 BJP MLAs and MLCs deployed to Telangana for a week from different states to assess the ground situation. While the overall feedback was that the party was not in as poor a shape as it was believed at the ground level, party sources said the questions were worrisome.
The least troublesome among the questions is about Raja Singh, who is expected to be allowed back into the party fold. Party sources said that his suspension was seen in some ways as appeasing a minority community, something that has annoyed the cadre.
But the real challenge, the sources said, would be to explain why Sanjay was replaced, especially since the feedback was positive on him and his efforts to raise the party's profile in the state.
“The uniform feedback was that Sanjay is the one responsible for BJP’s rise in the state and there is a lot of disappointment over the change. Though we hope everyone will fall in line eventually, the change has led to a lot of heartburn among the cadre for whom Sanjay has emerged as the hero the party desperately needed,” a senior party source said.
The really big problem to explain away is the issue of Kavitha and her alleged role or involvement in the Delhi liquor scam, the source said. The cadre are unable to fathom why after all the hype by the party’s top leaders that her arrest was round the corner, no action has been taken till date.
