Andhra minister wants Naidu arrested for stampede deaths

Vijayawada: Housing minister Jogi Ramesh demanded that Telugu Desam chief N. Chandrababu Naidu be arrested for causing eight deaths in a stampede at Kandukur where the opposition leader had arrived there for a road show.

Addressing media here on Saturday, Ramesh wanted AP DGP to conduct a thorough investigation on why Naidu conducted a meeting in a narrow street and arrest the TD leaders responsible, including Naidu.

The minister said YSRC government is proud of benefitting BCs, SCs, STs, minorities and the poor of all castes during 2022 through its direct cash transfer (DBT) schemes. He asserted that during 2023, Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy will ensure that DBT reaches every household.

Ramesh challenged TD chief to contest all 175 MLA seats in AP without forming an alliance with any party during the elections. Likewise, he asked TD leader Nara Lokesh to win a direct election by winning the hearts of public, instead of staging dramas in the name of political yatras.

The minister asked Naidu why he is creating hurdles for starting English medium in government schools by approaching courts. He maintained that studying in English will enable children of SCs, STs, BCs and minorities students to pursue studies in countries like America, the UK, Canada and Australia.
