Congress Promises Cash Transfers, ₹25L Health Cover In Assam

AICC president Kharge releases guarantees of Congress includes cash incentives of Rs 50,000, Rs 25 lakh health insurance, land to indigenous people in Assam.

Guwahati: Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge on Sunday released the party manifesto for the upcoming Assam Assembly elections, outlining five guarantees including cash transfers for women, health insurance and land rights.

Addressing a rally in Naoboicha in North Lakhimpur district, he said women would receive unconditional monthly cash transfers and an incentive of ₹50,000 to start business ventures if the party is voted to power. “We are calling the cash transfer unconditional as the money which BJP is giving to women now is conditional. To become a beneficiary, one has to be a member of the BJP, but we won’t impose such restrictions and everyone will be given cash benefits,” he said.
He said the party would provide cashless health insurance cover of ₹25 lakh to each family and claimed similar assurances had been implemented in Rajasthan, Karnataka and Telangana.
Targeting Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, Kharge called him a “nakli” (fake) chief minister and alleged that the BJP had replaced Sarbananda Sonowal after the 2021 elections. He accused the state government of intimidating people and creating divisions.
“We also promise to provide justice to the late Zubeen Garg within 100 days of coming to power. We will find out who killed him and what was the conspiracy within that time period,” he said.
Kharge said the party would grant permanent land pattas to indigenous people instead of annual renewals and provide ₹1,250 per month to senior citizens. “These are the guarantees which we will provide. Hence, I request the voters to support Congress and help us in rescuing Assam of misrule and corruption indulged in by the BJP government in the state,” he said.
Assam Congress president Gaurav Gogoi also addressed the rally and alleged that the BJP government was pursuing divisive policies. “I promise that if Congress comes to power, we will bring a law under which anyone who targets another religion and tries to create communal divisions will be sent to prison for five years,” he said.
