Karpoori Thakur's son Ramnath Thakur gets Cabinet berth
New Delhi: Janata Dal-United leader Ramnath Thakur will be swearing in as Union Minister in the third NDA government led by Narendra Modi on Sunday.
Ramnath Thakur is a two-time MP of the Rajya Sabha and the son of former Bihar Chief Minister and Bharat Ratna awardee Karpoori Thakur.
He thanked Prime Minister-designate Narendra Modi and Bihar CM Nitish Kumar for the ministerial berth.
"On behalf of my family, my party, I express my gratitude to PM Narendra Modi and Bihar CM Nitish Kumar... I express my gratitude to them for including a small person like me in the Union Cabinet. He (PM Modi in the meeting) said that we will work on the path of development with dedication towards the people of the country," Thakur told ANI on Sunday.
Thakur served as Bihar minister between 2005 and 2010 under Chief Minister Nitish Kumar. He became active in electoral politics after his mother, Karpoori Thakur's, death in 1988.
Thakur contested the assembly elections in 2000, in February 2005 and again in October 2005. He served as JD(U)'s Rajya Sabha twice.
Karpoori Thakur was posthumously conferred with Bharat Ratna, the country's highest civilian award by the President earlier in March this year.
