Congress Shrinking Across India, Says Modi In Pondy

The Prime Minister also accused the Congress of undermining democratic processes,

Puducherry: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday criticised the Congress, stating that the party’s presence is declining across the country, while addressing BJP karyakartas ahead of the Assembly elections.

He said the Congress’ political space has reduced nationally, citing electoral setbacks and a decline in parliamentary strength. “The Congress culture of dynasty politics and patronage is ending. India today is young, aspirational and forward-looking,” he said.
Targeting the previous Congress government in Puducherry, the Prime Minister alleged that it functioned under the “high command” in Delhi rather than addressing local concerns, and described the party as operating in a feudal manner.
He said voters who supported the party in 2016 were disappointed due to what he termed misgovernance and neglect of sectors such as fisheries, coastal development and local industries.
The Prime Minister also accused the Congress of undermining democratic processes, referring to delays in conducting panchayat elections despite court directions, and contrasted this with elections being held in regions such as Jammu and Kashmir and Gujarat.
Highlighting development initiatives, Modi said the NDA government is working to position Puducherry as a centre for education, tourism and spirituality, and noted that projects inaugurated during his visit reflect the Centre’s focus on the Union Territory.
He called on party workers to step up outreach efforts and expressed confidence that voters would support the NDA in the upcoming elections. Earlier, the Prime Minister inaugurated several projects and held a roadshow.
