PM Modi Dedicates Kerala’s Maiden Lok Sabha Win to BJP Martyrs

Thiruvananthapuram: National Democratic Alliance (NDA) Prime Minister-designate Narendra Modi on Friday dedicated the maiden victory of BJP MP from Kerala to the sacrifices made by countless party workers in the state over the years.

During his speech after getting elected as the NDA parliamentary party leader, Mr Modi said hundreds of BJP workers had sacrificed their lives in Kerala. “Whether UDF or LDF, perhaps in the political life of India, so much oppression must have happened to people who pursue a particular ideology, then I can only say that it happened in Kerala,” he said and added that the oppression was more than Jammu and Kashmir.

The prime minister said despite facing such oppression, there was no sign of victory in front of them. However, the workers did not lag in the height of hard work. Generations and generations were spent. And today, for the first time, we have our representative coming to Parliament from Kerala,” he said amid thunderous applause and thumping of desks.

Malayalam film actor Suresh Gopi created history in the just concluded Lok Sabha polls registering a stupendous victory in the Thrissur parliamentary constituency. He defeated the CPI candidate and former minister V S Sunil Kumar by a margin of 74686 votes. The victory was quite significant since Thrissur was the sitting seat of the Congress-led UDF and all the seven assembly segments in the constituency are represented by the ruling CPM-led LDF.

The BJP candidate Suresh Gopi increased his vote share from 2.90 lakh in 2019 to over 4 lakh this time around. While CPI’s Sunil Kumar bagged 3.34 lakh votes.

The vote share of high-profile Congress candidate and late K Karunakaran’s son K Muraleedharan came down from 4.15 lakh to 3.24 lakh.
