Modi, MBS Discuss West Asia Tensions
Modi said the two leaders discussed the evolving situation and “agreed on the need to ensure freedom of navigation and keeping shipping lines open and secure”, in reference to key maritime routes including the Strait of Hormuz

"Conflict has been ongoing in West Asia for over a month. India is confronting this challenge with full strength," PM Modi said.
New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday spoke with Saudi Crown Prince and Prime Minister Mohammed bin Salman, reiterating India’s condemnation of attacks on regional energy infrastructure amid the ongoing West Asia conflict.
In a post on X, Modi said the two leaders discussed the evolving situation and “agreed on the need to ensure freedom of navigation and keeping shipping lines open and secure”, in reference to key maritime routes including the Strait of Hormuz. He also thanked the Crown Prince for “his continued support for the welfare of the Indian community in Saudi Arabia”.
The interaction follows a meeting between external affairs minister S. Jaishankar and Saudi foreign minister Faisal bin Farhan in France on the sidelines of a G7 Foreign Ministers’ meeting with partner countries.
The outreach comes amid heightened tensions in West Asia, with recent attacks on energy infrastructure affecting regional stability.
The development also assumes significance against the backdrop of the Saudi-Pakistan defence pact announced earlier, which, according to reports, has not yielded expected outcomes for Riyadh. Pakistan, currently engaged in tensions with Afghanistan, has not indicated any military involvement in the West Asia conflict, even as regional hostilities escalate.
