Modi to Chair Meeting with CMs on West Asia

The discussions will focus on coordinated action and "Team India" synergy. However, sources indicated that Chief Ministers of poll-bound states will not be attending the meeting

NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will interact with Chief Ministers of all states, except those going to polls, on Friday to review preparedness and response plans in view of the West Asia conflict. The initiative aims to ensure coordinated action in the spirit of “Team India”.

This will be the first such interaction with Chief Ministers since the conflict began on February 28 following US-Israel strikes on Iran, and Iran’s subsequent retaliatory attacks on Israel and its Gulf neighbours.

Officials said the meeting will be held via video conferencing and will focus on assessing state-level preparedness and ensuring a unified national response.

Chief Ministers of poll-bound states will not attend due to the Model Code of Conduct. The Cabinet Secretariat will instead hold a separate meeting with Chief Secretaries of Tamil Nadu, West Bengal, Assam, Kerala and the Union Territory of Puducherry.

On Wednesday, the Centre held an all-party meeting chaired by defence minister Rajnath Singh to discuss the conflict and its implications. The government said the country’s oil and LPG supplies remain stable and urged the public not to panic. It also said talks are on with other countries to secure additional energy supplies.

In the Lok Sabha earlier, the Prime Minister said the global situation may persist and called for unity and preparedness, similar to the Covid-19 period. He also flagged internal security concerns, noting that agencies are on alert and security across coastal, border, cyber and strategic sectors is being strengthened.

He urged states to remain vigilant and act against black-marketing, hoarding and misinformation.
