Police Held US Doctor Lokesh for Using Satellite Phone Without Permit
Vijayawada: The Gannavaram police again took Telugu staunch supporter and NRI Dr Vuyyuru Lokesh Babu on Sunday for possessing a satellite phone without proper documents. The police apprehended Lokesh earlier on May 17 when he was suspiciously wandering at the Gannavaram airport corridor when Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy was going on a tour abroad. Lokesh complained about heart pain and the possibility of a heart attack; hence, the police shifted him to a private hospital. After treatment, he was questioned and released after serving 41A notice.
Meanwhile, on Sunday, Lokesh came to the airport and again wandered suspiciously. Hence, the police questioned him. Lokesh claimed that he was going to Delhi; hence, he came to the airport, and the police found a satellite phone with him. The police asked Lokesh to show papers for the use of a satellite phone, but Lokesh failed. The police said that one should obtain permission from the Union government to use a satellite phone, but Lokesh is using it without documents. The Gannavaram police took him into custody, shifted him to the police station, and are investigating the matter.
According to the reports, Lokesh, who belongs to Venkatayapalem of Thullur mandal of Amaravati in Guntur district, went to America and settled there by getting US citizenship. He worked as a gastroenterologist in Richmond; he worked there for 38 years, and his license was reportedly cancelled by the local authorities due to a violation of norms. Earlier in the year 2022, Dr Lokesh filed a lawsuit against Prime Minister Narendra Modi, AP CM Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, and business tycoon Gautam Adani on a host of issues, including corruption and Pegasus spyware, in the US district court for the district of Columbia without evidence.
In recent times, Dr Lokesh came to the AP to support TD in the elections. He actively participated in the poll discussions in vernacular channels and alleged CM Jagan Mohan Reddy was illegally sending thousands of crores from Tadepalli’s house since 2016 to foreign countries. He further alleged that the CM went abroad to safeguard his stash.
