Tharoor and Kerala’s Congress
Shashi Tharoor, the ‘global citizen’ of the Congress party had been seemingly closer to the High Command than the state leadership. The Thiruvananthapuram MP has had numerous instances of locking horns with his Kerala colleagues, but nevertheless, he was one of the star campaigners for UDF during the recent state assembly elections. During the tussle for chief ministership between senior state leaders, the President of the Indian National Congress, Mallikarjun Kharge had seeked Tharoor’s take, before making the decision of announcing VD Satheesan as the new Kerala CM. After the announcement, Tharoor had hailed the newly sworn-in CM VD Satheesan, saying it was a richly deserved recognition of his tenacity, conviction, and years of service to the party and people. He also had highlighted that it was no one man’s victory, but a collective win for the “Team UDF”.
