West Bengal Police Raid House of BJP Leader Suvendu Adhikari, Sparking Outrage

KOLKATA: West Bengal police on Tuesday raided a rented house of leader of the opposition Suvendu Adhikari, leaving him furious. In the afternoon, around 70 cops conducted the raid on the rented house of the Nandigram BJP MLA at Kolaghat in East Midnapore.

They claimed that they searched the place hunting for a miscreant who is absconding in a case. Mr Adhikari who was at a Lok Sabha Election campaign rally rushed to Kolaghat police station in the evening with his aides and burst into anger.

He pointed out that he has protection from the Calcutta High Court which bars police to take any action against him. Mr Adhikari also threatened to move the HC on Wednesday against the raid.

“Who will be responsible if the police plant some weapons at my home in my absence? The Election Commission must act such frivolous step by the police. I want to know why the raid was done and at the behest of whom. It is clear chief minister Mamata Banerjee is trying to victimise me,” the BJP MLA claimed.
