Ponnam Prabhakar visits Prakash Goud, Swamy Goud
Hyderabad: BRS’ Rajendranagar MLA T. Prakash Goud and former chair of TS Legislative Council K. Swamy Goud on Thursday met transport and BC welfare minister Ponnam Prabhakar, sparking speculation of the duo jumping ship to the Congress.
Prabhakar met the leaders separately, first visiting Swamy Goud’s residence and then Prakash Goud. After the closed-door meetings, he left the spot without addressing mediapersons.
Prakash Goud later said that the minister had paid a courtesy call and there was no political significance attached to it. He said they did not discuss political issues but those concerning the Backward Classes communities. Swamy Goud did not provide a clarification.
Prakash Goud won on a TD ticket from Rajendranagar in 2014, but shifted to BRS in February 2016. He retained the seat in 2018 and 2023.
TNGOs leader Swamy Goud, who played a key role in the statehood agitation, was nominated MLC in 2013 and made the first chairman of the TS Legislative Council in 2014. His six-year MLC tenure ended in 2019.
Upset at the BRS not nominating him later, Swamy Goud quit the BRS and joined the BJP in November 2020 but returned to the party in October 2021, ahead of the Munugode Assembly bypoll, but stayed away from party activities.
