Rachakonda Police Unveils Women Safety Register Against Harassment

New initiative aims to monitor and prevent sexual harassment incidents.
Hyderabad: The Rachakonda police on Friday introduced the women safety surveillance register, aimed at circulating and maintaining records in all their police stations. It involves a six-month monitoring period to track sexual harassment offenders

The monitoring will be done by station house officers and sub-inspectors. The main aim of the creating the register is to support and follow-up with victims, preventing further harm.

As part of the exercise, officers will contact victims or their families, inquiring about ongoing harassment or threats, Rachakonda She Teams DCP T. Usha said.

Meanwhile, the Rachakonda She Teams said they had arrested 118 persons for harassing women and girls after responding to complaints and during operations in public places.

From January 1 to 15, the She Teams received 138 complaints, including 30 over the phone, 20 through WhatsApp, and 33 via social media apps. Based on these, the police booked four criminal and 53 petty cases. Of the arrested, 64 individuals were counselled in the presence of their family members.

Among the accused were a person pressuring a woman in Kushaiguda, a youth in Choutuppal involved in online fraud, and an event organiser harassing a female dancer in Saroornagar.

In another instance, the Rachakonda She Team working with the District Child Protection Unit prevented a child marriage at Hayathnagar, said Rachakonda commissioner G. Sudheer Babu.
