Railways to Hold Inquiry into Kanchanjunga Express Train Accident on June 19
The Chief Commissioner of Railway Safety, Northeast Frontier Railway will hold a statutory inquiry in connection with the Kanchanjunga Express train accident on June 19.
"Members of the public having knowledge relating to the incident and any other matter connected therewith may appear and tender evidence at the inquiry on the dates mentioned above or write to the Chief Commissioner of Railway Safety," said the press release.
On June 17, A goods train rammed into the Sealdah-bound Kanchanjunga Express near New Jalpaiguri in West Bengal leaving 10 killed and 50 injured which included the loco pilot of the good's train. The incident took place at 8:55 AM.

As a result of the incident, four coaches of the Kanchanjunga Express and 5 wagons of the goods train got derailed.
In the wake of the accident, 19 trains were cancelled and 24 trains were diverted on New jalpaiguri, Siliguri Junction, Bagdogra & Aluabari road route on Monday. Indian Railways also issued Help desk numbers.
Prime Minister Modi announced exgratia of Rs 2 lakh from PMNRF to the kin of the deceased and Rs 50,000 to the injured. Railways Minister Ashwini Vaishnav also announced ex gratia of Rs 10 lakh to the deceased, Rs 2.5 lakh to victims who are grievously injured and Rs 50,000 for persons with minor injuries.
