Rains, thunderstorms likely in Hyderabad today

Hyderabad: After a brief respite, Hyderabad experienced intense rainfall and thunderstorms on Wednesday night and the early hours of Thursday. The sudden downpour caused significant changes in the weather patterns, bringing much-needed relief to the residents.

Malkajgiri, Uppal, L.B. Nagar, Secunderabad, Malakpet, Dilsukhnagar, Vanasthalipuram, Amberpet, and Himayatnagar experienced the heaviest downpours.

According to Telangana State Development Planning Society (TSDPS), several areas in the city recorded rainfall ranging from 10 mm to 20 mm. Circle-12 (Mehdipatnam) had the highest cumulative average rainfall of 16.5 mm with the current hour average standing at 0 mm, marked as moderate intensity. Other circles like Uppal and Karwan recorded 13.6 mm and 13.5 mm respectively, both marked as light intensity.

The situation was not limited to Hyderabad alone. Adilabad, Nizamabad, Peddapalli, Jagtial, Jangaon, Yadadri Bhuvanagiri, Karimnagar, Hanumakonda, Jayashankar Bhupalapally, Siddipet, and Kamareddy districts also experienced significant thunderstorms. The rainfall distribution across these districts showed widespread impact with districts like Hanmakonda (Velair) recording a substantial 62.5 mm.

On Thursday, the weather department issued a yellow alert for heavy rains and thunderstorms across various districts, including Hyderabad. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) warned of thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds (30-40 kmph) in isolated places across Rangareddy, Medchal Malkajgiri and Nalgonda districts, among others.

For the next three days, TSDPS has forecast light to moderate rain/thundershowers at isolated places up to Friday, followed by dry weather in the subsequent two days.

Maximum temperatures are expected to range between 42°C and 45°C, while minimum temperatures are projected to be between 25°C and 28°C in the state.

In the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) area, light rain/thundershowers are expected at isolated places up to Friday, with dry weather expected for the next two days. The temperatures are expected to range between 39°C and 42°C, with minimum temperatures between 26°C and 28°C.
