Snooping case: Prime accused Prabhakar Rao to return next month
Hyderabad: Former SIB chief and prime accused in the phone-tapping case T. Prabhakar Rao is expected to land in Hyderabad in the second week of June.
"Once he arrives, more developments will take place in the case. Screws would be tightened against all those who were actually involved in phone-tapping," a top source told Deccan Chronicle here on Monday.
"We came to know through our sources that he is expected to land in Hyderabad in the second week of June. We are yet to receive official information about it,, though" the source said.
The police have recently secured court approval to execute a non-bailable warrant against Rao. The SIT has reportedly collected more evidence and will make more arrests, reliable sources said.
Rao was under immense pressure from some political leaders, sources claimed. He has to return to India and face the investigation as further delays will land him in several legal complications, sources said.
Rao, who is reportedly in Texas, fled to the US from Tirupati in the first week of December 2023 under directions from political leaders, sources said. Although he asked co-accused D. Praneeth Rao, former DSP-SIB (SOT), to destroy all evidence in the war rooms, police have managed to retrieve most of it after Praneeth Rao’s arrest and police custody.
The Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing the case has since shifted its base to the Jubilee Hills ACP office from the Banjara Hills police station.
