Social media accounts of MLC Kavitha, Gov. Tamilisai hacked
Hyderabad: Social media accounts of Governor Dr Tamilisai Soundararajan and BRS MLC Kalvakuntla Kavitha were allegedly hacked, with suspicious activity logged in both instances and posts made in violation of the platform rules.
In the Governor’s case, Soundararajan received a communication alert from X’s (formerly Twitter) technical support team, pointing out a violation of platform rules on a tweet posted from her account, police sources said.
Subsequently, the situation intensified after the account’s display picture (DP) was removed and an attempt to log in with an incorrect password was made, police sources said.
Immediately, the assistant comptroller responsible for managing administrative affairs of the Raj Bhavan took cognisance of the issue and reported it to the cybercrime police for a thorough investigation.
“We have registered a case under sections 66 C and 66 of the IPC and Section 43 of the IT Act, and are making efforts to identify the culprit,” a cybercrime police officer said.
In Kavitha’s case, her Instagram and X accounts were allegedly targeted by cybercriminals from 10 pm on Tuesday and 11 am on Wednesday.
Logging in suspiciously, the miscreants posted an unrelated video on Instagram from Kavitha’s account. Kavitha immediately posted a complaint on X, tagging the cybercrime DGP, about her social media accounts being hacked.
“My social media account experienced a brief unauthorised access. The suspicious activities and contents during this time do not reflect our values. Security measures have been reinforced and we will observe a downtime to ensure security and we appreciate your understanding,” Kavitha posted on her X account on Wednesday.
The cybercrime DGP, in a press release, said: “Efforts are underway to fully restore social media accounts.”
