Sons, Daughters Fail to Carry on Parents’ Legacy in Politics

Visakhapatnam: Some green horns failed to carry forward the legacy of their parents in Andhra Pradesh politics. Many leaders, particularly from the YSRC, tried to initiate their children into politics in the 2024 elections but failed to achieve their mission.

Veteran leaders of YSRC, Perni Venkataramaiah (Perni Nani), Chevireddy Bhaskar Reddy, Bhumana Karunakar Reddy, Narayana Swamy and Budi Mutyala Naidu tried their luck this way.

Deputy chief minister Budi Mutyala Naidu got nomination for his daughter Erle Anuradha to contest from Madugula after he was shifted to Anakapalli to contest the Lok Sabha polls against BJP leader CM Ramesh. But she lost to another veteran leader and former minister Bandaru Satyanarayana Murthy of the TD.

Abhinay Reddy, son of Karunakar Reddy, lost to Arni Srinivasulu of the Jana Sena for the Tirupathi assembly seat. Similarly, Bhaskar Reddy’s son Mohith Reddy lost to Pulavarthi Nani of the Telugu Desam. Perni Nani’s son Perni Krishna Murthy lost to former minister Kollu Ravindra in the fight for the Machilipatnam seat.

Narayana Swamy’s daughter K Kripalakshmi also failed to take off and lost to VM Thomas for the Gangadhara Nellore assembly segment.

Other YSRC leaders also tried to push their children forward by giving up their candidature claim in this election. Dharmana Prasada Rao told the chief minister that he would drop out of the contest and requested that his son Ram Manohar Naidu be fielded instead. But Jagan Reddy did not agree to this and asked him to contest the Srikakulam assembly constituency, which he now lost.

Prasada Rao’s elder brother and former deputy chief minister Dharmana Krishnadas wanted to promote his son Krishnachaitanya in this election. That also fell flat. He contested from Narasannapeta constituency and lost.

However, Araku MLA Chetti Palguna was successful in promoting his daughter-in-law Tahnuja Rani. She contested for the Araku LS seat and defeated former MP Kothapalli Geetha.

Former central minister Yerran Naidu’s son achieved success. He won the Srikakulam LS seat for the third time in a row. Former MP, MVVS Murthy’s grandson M Sribharat won this election to Visakhapatnam LS seat with a huge margin. He lost the 2019 election by a slender margin to MVV Satyanarayana.
