Srisailam Forest, Devasthanam in Row Over Boundary

Kurnool: A conflict has erupted between the Srisailam Devasthanam and the forest department over their boundary.

While demarking the boundary, officials of the forest department included 13 acres at the tollgate within the forest area.

But the devasthanam authorities objected to this, accusing the forest staff of creating problems for devotees by arbitrarily demarcating the boundary.

Srisailam police intervened to settle the issue for the time being.

However, forest officials are planning to file a complaint on the issue. They want to put up forest boundary pillars near the toll gate and Nandeeswara dormitory areas.

According to FRO V. Narasimhulu, their survey has found that 13 acres of land belongs to the forest department, but it had been under the control of the devasthanam authorities.

He maintained that they have informed their superiors about the objection raised by the temple authorities. They would file a police complaint if deemed necessary.

He said erection of pillars is being proposed to prevent any future encroachment of the forest land.
